ReNew is an Australian-first program aimed at breaking the cycle of domestic violence. ReNew is aimed at early intervention and the renewal of healthy relationships. We work with children and young people, together with their mothers who have experienced domestic violence.
Carinity Talera and Ipswich's Domestic Violence Action Centre (DVAC) have partnered to develop the program with the funding support of the Queensland Government.
ReNew is focused on helping people overcome the trauma of domestic violence to re-establish strong family relationships. Sometimes, young people who have witnessed domestic violence find it particularly challenging to cope with, and sometimes go on to use abusive, controlling or coercive behaviour in their own family relationships. Repairing relationships and providing new ways to manage emotions can have significant positive impacts on families, and can help to prevent future domestic violence.
The program, which is free, runs over 20 weeks, and involved group therapy, individual counselling and joint mother and son counselling sessions.
ReNew has upcoming courses in the Ipswich, Brisbane South and Brisbane West regions.
